Want to feel the thrill of a motorbike ride but with the safety of a car, then you have ample reasons to feel happy as designers have been regularly creating concept trikes such as the BMW i1 – an all-electric three-wheeled vehicle designed for German automobile giant BMW. Conceptualized by Amadou Ba Ndiaye, the BMW i1 promises energy-efficient commutes on three wheels. BMW i1 is a single seater, electric-powered vehicle with three motors giving power to wheels. Each wheel has an independent motor.

As the BMW i1 sports three wheels, so the issue of wheel tilt is important to be sorted out in order to maintain the safety of the passengers. The wheel tilt in this concept car is controlled by computer calibrated hydraulic system. The chassis of the stylish and sleek BMW i1 is made up of carbon fiber. It remains to be seen that when the car will hit the market but one thing is certain that whenever it will go on sale, it will find many takers among the car enthusiasts across the world. Who will not want to feel the joy of riding a car and the adventure of a motorbike in one vehicle?

What to expect in the future from an eminent brand that James Bond drives? The answer is ‘pretty’ much present in the above image. Exquisitely conceptualized by Jack Allenet, this is the Aston Martin E-teuer. Adroitly futuristic in its demeanor, gracefully curvaceous in its ‘racing’ body and arduously elegant in its overall form; this electric car certainly has it all. Supposedly inspired by the British automaker’s achievements at the renowned Le Mans track; the designer wanted to infuse that sublime essence of speed and style, albeit with dollops of sustainability.

The striking visual element aside, the conception has also been envisaged to exhibit an exhilarating level of performance. Zealously propelled by a power output of 400kW and a convincing torque of 750nm, the vehicle can romp up to a blistering top speed of 300 km/hr. Moreover, being ‘fueled’ by the efficient and green KERS, the car could accelerate from 0-60 (0-100 km) in just under 3 seconds.

Coming to the lissome body, the energetic styling is influenced from a plethora of fascinating sports cars such as the Aston Martin DB9 and Vantage, and even racing conceptions like the Le Mans LMP1. The overall weight is just limited to 500kg, while the performance capability is boosted by E-tuer’s intrinsic aerodynamic form and efficacious suspension. The car also incorporates the notorious F-duct system, which helps in reducing aerodynamic drag with enhancement of substantial speed.

Finally coming to the innovative design feature, the maneuvering mechanism (in relation to the EV drive train) can be adjusted to cope up with different roads (and even climatic conditions). This inherent flexibility of the drive allows optimum user convenience regarding acceleration, top speed, traction control, active braking, and even engine mapping. So, all in all, the conception certainly manages to successfully fuse the progressive attributes of design, performance and style along with elements of low emission technology.

Ferrari Xezri Concept Car by Samir Sadikhov: Cars with latest modern designs lure today’s car enthusiasts. The premier car makers are in competition with each other to bring fresh and new ideas which are then incorporated while designing the cars. That’s why world’s top car making giants are looking for talents who can come up with innovative and fresh ideas. Ferrari, a car manufacturer, has introduced three new talented car designers to the world who have finished three year post-diploma course in transportation design in the academic year 2010-2011 from Design School of Turin IED. The final year projects which were done by these talented students were reviewed by Ferrari minutely before rewarding them for their works. Samir Sadikov, a resident of Azerbaijan, who has designed Ferrari Xezri on the principles of “Flexible aerodynamics” won the second prize.

This newly designed sports car has been built keeping the flow and dynamics of wind in mind. The specialty of this design is that the rear wing of the car which is placed horizontally on the roof activates automatically and absorbs wind from outside to cool the engine when the car achieves a super speed of 200km/hr and higher.

This prize is the second win for Turin IED which has previously won first position in the same contest in 2005. Seeing the car which is designed after principles of flexible aerodynamics by Samir, zipping through the deserted flyovers with ease like red fire in great speed, the CEOs of Ferrari Amedeo Felisa, Paolo Pininfarina and Flavia Manzoni are all praise for it. They even say that the design of this new car reminds them of designs of some old Ferrari.

This new car design along with two other award winning projects i.e. 540 Pegaso and Ethesian by fellow students Giuseppe Ceccio, Giacomo Pierine Matteo politano and Alessandro Nardolillo will be displayed at an exhibiton at their school’s headquarters until the end of September.

The Automotive X-Prize - Video

The Automotive X-Prize competition whittled down a field of thirty-odd (some quite odd) vehicles to just three winners. While propulsion systems and seating plans differ, there are three clear lessons learned. The car of the future will be very light, it will be shaped like a fish, and the body will not be made of steel.

The Automotive X-Prize
Never mind all the hoopla over electric vehicles. The biggest winner in the Automotive X-Prize was Very Light Car’s mainstream four-seater, with a tiny ethanol-powered 250CC motorcycle engine propelling the Edison2 to a $5 million dollar bounty.

While the battery-powered E-Tracer won the alternative two-passenger tandem class, one has to wonder how an enclosed motorcycle with a price tag reported to be in the $100,000 range could possibly make a dent in this country’s dependence on foreign oil.

The Automotive X-Prize
The well-funded Aptera 2e was an early favorite in the “alternative side-by-side” vehicle category, which was ultimately won by the Li-ion Motors Wave II. While the 2e is best known for its extremely aerodynamic three-wheeled design, it’s what’s beneath the vehicle’s skin that is perhaps most important.

The 2e is built with an innovative composite body structure that puts to question the entire manner in which cars have been constructed, to this day. After spending a few hours with the Aptera crew earlier this week, it’s evident that their construction technology is their most important asset. The bees know best.
